Trail Work to Improve Skier Safety and Grooming

ST. PAUL, MN–September 4, 2012– The SISU Foundation today announced that in cooperation with Ramsey County Parks, a trail improvement project at Battle Creek Park in St. Paul  has been finalized and with the support from the community, it will be completed by October 1.

“The project will benefit anyone who skis at Battle Creek,” commented Ben Popp, Executive Director of the SISU Foundation.  ”Beginners, High school and MYSL kids, citizen racers and the elite –the last descent was very dangerous and difficult in even the best snow conditions.  This change will make the ski experience at Battle Creek even better- especially if you ski there under the lights – that downhill was bit hairy! ”

The plan includes improving the safety of the final downhill on the trial system, as well as the ability to groom and hold snow on the last 1km of trail by removing the crown and widening it.

The cost of the project, including bull dozing, leveling, seeding, erosion mats, wood chipping, is over $4,000.  County workers and volunteers are able to complete much of the work, but a balance of $1,850 for materials and contract work remains.  For this reason, the SISU Foundation has organized a fund drive to guarantee that the project is completed.

If you ski at Battle Creek or support the trail system please consider donating.  Skiing at Battle Creek requires only a MN Ski pass, no daily fees are charged.  Supporting projects like this keep the trial system well maintained and a great place to ski for all.
